The wine grower

Alajos Wunderlich is very friendly with all the visitors, talking to them in an informal way with his unique humour; showing the wine-pressing house, the wine-cellar itself; not loving himself, but the wine. There is nothing special written on the label: a lot can be said with only a few words.

Listening to him it seems only natural that someone from an industrial family is slowly but inexorably caught up in the miracle of wine production. First the natural beauty and the peace of the beautiful slopes; later the search for the best fields in the Remete, the Jammertal and the Agancsos.

First, the methods borrowed and learnt from older winemakers, his godfather and his parents. Later the first wine of his own from his first vineyard. Kadarka was his first vintage from 1992.

Instinct and taste showed him to be a natural. His clear outlook, good approach, and his perfectionism led him in the right direction: towards gold medals in local and national wine competitions, the regular visits of wine lovers, a place on the wine lists of top quality restaurants at customers' requests, as well as media interest.

A happy person? Maybe, yes. He has discovered his was of self-expression and fulfils his life in this way. Wine maker Alajos Wunderlich is just like his wines: honest, made with a true heart, wines of high calibre. What he has achieved with them is simply wonderful. Nomen est omen. Name is destiny.
